A practical working sequence

Fix the immediate problem, then build the finance capability the business needs next.

01

Start with the constraint

We identify the finance problem creating the most delay, uncertainty or management effort. The first scope is built to resolve that problem.

02

Agree the output

You know what will be prepared, who owns each input, when it will be delivered and how the information will be reviewed.

03

Stabilise the process

We resolve priority gaps, establish the working calendar and create a consistent route from accounting records to management information.

04

Use the numbers

Reports and forecasts are discussed in plain language, with attention on the actions, risks and decisions that follow.

What we need from you

A clear contact, timely access and honest context.

You do not need to prepare a perfect handover before speaking with us. We do need enough access and context to understand what is reliable, what is missing and who currently owns each step.

  • A primary contact who can answer operational questions
  • Access to the agreed accounting records and supporting information
  • Visibility of important deadlines, commitments and existing adviser relationships
  • Management input on priorities, assumptions and significant decisions

The first working cycle

The opening cycle should reduce uncertainty, not create more administration.

The initial working cycle focuses on access, accuracy, responsibilities and the first useful output.

Depending on the service, that output may be a cleaned accounting position, a management reporting pack, a cash forecast, an integrated model or a prioritised finance-process plan.

We then agree what should repeat monthly or quarterly, what follows a project milestone and what should remain with your tax adviser, payroll provider or external auditor.

One accountable contact

Know who owns the engagement and where to direct questions throughout the work.

No unnecessary package

Start with the scope that resolves the present constraint.

Clear service boundaries

Know which work we perform and which regulated services remain with other specialists.

Delivery rhythm and formats

Frequency follows the service, the decision and the agreed deadline.

No single timetable suits every engagement. These are the normal structures used to define a practical scope.

01Deadline-led project

Year-end and defined accounting work

The timetable follows the condition of the records, the agreed completion date and the information required by the client’s appointed advisers.

Typical outputsPrepared accounts, closing schedules, reconciliations and an adviser handover pack in agreed PDF, spreadsheet or accounting-system formats.
02Monthly or quarterly

Recurring accounting support

A repeatable calendar covers information requests, bookkeeping, reconciliations, close activity and the agreed reporting date.

Typical outputsUpdated accounting records, reconciliation schedules, receivables or payables reporting and a period-end close pack.
03Usually monthly or quarterly

Management accounts and Virtual CFO

Reporting frequency reflects the pace of the business, leadership meeting calendar and level of senior finance involvement required.

Typical outputsA management pack, KPI or variance schedules, concise commentary and a performance discussion. Packs may be shared as PDF, spreadsheet or an agreed dashboard.
04Project milestones or rolling updates

Forecasting and financial modelling

A model may be built for one decision, while cash forecasts and budgets may be updated as actual results and assumptions change.

Typical outputsEditable spreadsheet models, assumptions and scenario schedules, plus summary outputs suitable for management, lenders or investors.
05Phased project

Finance systems, processes and controls

The work progresses through review, design, implementation support and handover according to the processes included in scope.

Typical outputsProcess maps, close calendars, control documents, procedure notes, checklists and remediation trackers in editable document or PDF formats.

Accounting systems

QuickBooks support, shaped around the way your business works.

Our team works with QuickBooks and can support accounting setup, record cleanup, reporting workflows and the recurring accounting process within the platform.

The existing system, spreadsheets and supporting records are reviewed during scoping because access, data quality and reporting requirements determine what needs to change.

If a different cloud-accounting setup or system change is justified, the platform, responsibilities, data migration and handover requirements are agreed before implementation. A business should not be pushed into changing software simply to fit a preferred tool.
